A traditional, south-facing resort, La Rosière has a great mix of French and Italian skiing, and is popular with families and first-timers. The resort is divided into two main areas, La Rosière centre and Les Eucherts. They're connected by a short bus ride and a floodlit, Alpine forest walk. The ski area links to the Italian resort of La Thuile, and is part of the Espace San Bernardo ski area giving you over 160km of skiable piste and the chance to enjoy an authentic Italian pizza for lunch. Feeding into La Rosière, a number of blue and green runs make this an ideal place for progressing beginners.
The charm of the resort has made it a firm favourite with families, with many returning year after year. In terms of accommodation, you'll find a wide range of chalets and self-catering apartments, some of which are new and offer very high quality places to stay suitable for different needs, and others providing a value for money option. If you're looking for hotel accommodation, however, your choices might be a little limited in La Rosière so booking early is recommended.
The resort centre makes a great meeting point for lunch and socialising. Several piste-side restaurants are also ideal for a rendezvous with the rest of the family after a morning in ski school. The resort has a few bars, the pick of which would probably have to be Le Comptoir, which often hosts live music.
The Les Eucherts side of town also has a good range of bars and restaurants for when you want a slopeside hot chocolate or tartiflette for lunch - Le Flocon is always busy.

Eating out:
Choose from a modest range of around 20 places to eat in the village. Despite the limited choice, La Rosière has built up a bit of a reputatuon for good quality food. There are lots of charming little places with atmospheric décor and dishes that feature local ham and beaufort cheese. You can also find affordable pizzas and crêpes, or even cross the border to Italy for an authentic pizza/pasta lunch.
• Le Genepi - A really special place run by a French chef and his English wife. Choose from a menu of high-quality Savoyard dishes, including excellent steaks and pierrade.
• Le Petit St Bernard - Opt for traditional local fare like tartiflette, raclette, fondue or pierrade with five types of meat - or go a little more upmarket and choose the set gourmet menu or chef's menu.
• Le Flocon, Les Eucherts - The friendly staff and cheerful atmosphere are somehow reflected in the food - hearty favourites like burgers and pizza, as well as other meat dishes. There's also a bar and bowling alley in the same building.
Nightlife
La Rosière is a lovely little family resort, so nightlife isn't going to be as prominent as it is in somewhere like Val Thorens. However, there are a few bars split between La Rosière and Les Eucherts, and Tuesday is the liveliest night of the week as this is when the chalet hosts hit the town.
• Bar Le Roz - A small but lively bar connected to the Hotel Le Roz with cheap drinks, huge beer towers and lots of good music for dancing on tables.
• Moo Bar - Located in Les Eucherts, this spacious and modern bar has comfy sofas, cocktails and thumping music until the early hours.
• Le Petit Danois - This Scandinavian-themed bar is open until 2am and is one of the friendliest places in the middle of La Rosière. You can enjoy a drink on the terrace and watch the sun goes down, enjoy Danish après-ski parties, cocktail nights, live music and other themed nights throughout the week.
Tips from our local team:
Take advantage of the sun by skiing the south-facing slopes in the morning and the north in the afternoon.
To get to La Thuile, take the Bellecombe 1 and then the Bellecombe 2 drag lifts.
As the La Rosière slopes are bathed in south-facing sunlight most of the day this does mean that in the afternoons they can get a little soft at times. Make sure you make the most of your days by skiing the south-facing slopes in the mornings before heading to the north face for your afternoon session. Be careful you dont get caught on the wrong side at last lifts.
